Lions end regular season on three-match winning streak

MARS HILL, N.C. - Mars Hill's four seniors, comprised of Evie Tafunai, Chelsea Larsen, Laura Ann Huskey, and Doneisha Gartica, combined for 35 kills, 18 digs and eight-combined solo and assisted blocks to lead the Lions to a three-set victory over Milligan on Saturday. Mars Hill (14-11) won by scores of 25-20, 25-22 and 25-13 over the Lady Buffs (11-18) to conclude the regular season on a three-match winning streak.

Before the match, the four senior players and student athletic trainer Taylor Miles were recognized before a standing ovation inside Stanford Arena.

Mars Hill's Marissa Wixson posted a team-high 11 kills to go along with eight digs. Larsen followed up with 10 kills. Tafunai had nine, while Huskey and Gartica came up with eight apiece. Huskey also had three service aces.

Maggie Murphy posted a match-high 30 digs, and Tafunai was second on the team with 10. Hannah Wilson and Becca Smith dished out 22 and 18 assists, respectively.

Milligan's Kendra Fiddler led her team offensively with a match-high 12 kills. Morgan Rutledge (19), Holly English (14), and Erin Pittman (13) all posted double-digit dig totals. Chelsea Spivey totaled 17 assists.

Mars Hill begins participation in the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Tournament on Friday, Nov. 11. Seedings for the tournament, which will take place at Lincoln Memorial, are yet to be determined.
