
Appalachian Open Results
April 13, 2012BOONE, N.C.-- Eight members of the Mars Hill men's track and field teams finished in the top five of their events at the Appalachian Open Outdoor Track Meet at Belk Track Friday.
Tyjuan Hill turned in the top performance of the day for the Lions. Hill took first place overall in the Long Jump, with a jump of 22'-6.25".
Travis Riner turned in two top-five performances for Mars Hill. Riner placed second in the shot put with a throw of 47 feet, three inches and placed fourth in Discus with a throw of 144 feet, five inches.
Mars Hill turned in its typical strong performance in the 5000M. Joshua Adcock and Kiel Bollero took third and fourth place respectively in the event. Cameron Witherspoon (7th), Landon Minton (9th) and Josh Greenfield-Tuttle (10th) rounded out the Lions top ten finishers in the event. Greenfield-Tuttle added a fourth place finish in the 3000M Steeplechase on the day.
Three other Lions turned in top five finishes. Derek Gibson placed second in the 1500M with a time of 4:14.21. Deandre Vines added a third place finish in the 200M with a time of 22.40, and Cameron Shaw finished fifth in the 100M with a time of 11.20.
The 4x400M Relay team, consisting of Kendall Pickett, Isaiah Phyall, Vines and Shaw broke the school record by four seconds with a time of 3:23.75.
Mars Hill's next meet will be Apr. 20-21 at the Southeast Region Championships in Hickory, N.C.
