
Baseball Loses Game Three at GCSU
February 3, 2013MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Mars Hill’s baseball team lost game three at Georgia College Sunday afternoon at John Kurtz Field by a score of 8-4. The Bobcats rallied for five runs in the eighth inning to pick up the victory.
Steve Hazel, who entered the game in the seventh inning as a pinch hitter, hit a grand slam in the eighth to lead the five-run rally.
Georgia College (3-0) got a solid start from Christian Bragg going 5 1/3 innings, allowing just one run. The junior lefty departed in the sixth with a 3-1 lead.
Mars Hill (0-3) got one in the seventh and two more in the eighth to take the lead 4-3, but Georgia College responded in a big way in the bottom half. Batting around in the inning, the Bobcats tallied five runs on four hits and two walks.
Cody Maas had a 3-for-4 day with an RBI. Mikee Moore and Ryan Sabalaskey each had two hits, Moore scoring twice, while Sabalaskey drove in one and scored one.
Reliever Daniel Szathmary got the final five outs for the win (1-0), while Lion reliever Thomas Timmerman (0-1) took the loss in just 2/3 of an inning.
Lion leadoff hitter Tommy Scala was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, swatting a solo home run. Evan Rogers went 2-3 with a run scored. Shawn Weber was 1-4 with a pair of RBI.
Mars Hill will play at Belmont Abbey College on Feb. 5. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
