
Baseball Wins at King
February 12, 2013BRISTOL, Tenn. – Mars Hill’s baseball team won at King College on Tuesday afternoon, 8-2. Jacob Rand led the Lions at the plate with three hits while Thomas Timmerman had a solid pitching effort as well as going 2-2 at the plate with a double and an RBI.
It was head coach Aaron Rembert’s first win at the helm of the Lions’ baseball program. Rand went 3-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Tommy Scala, Matt Mayo, Timmerman and Andy Runion tallied two hits apiece in the victory. Mayo and Carroll also recorded doubles. Timmerman threw 6.2 innings scattering six hits and allowing only one earned run to pick up his first win (1-1) of the season.
After trailing 1-0 going into the third frame, Tyler Shuler scored Evan Rogers on a sacrifice fly. Mayo then plated Scala on another sacrifice fly to put the Lions ahead, 2-1. MHC would not trail again.
Rand scored on a fielder’s choice in the fifth inning before King added their final run of the game in the seventh inning. The Lions then exploded for four runs in the eighth inning on four hits and one King error. Carroll had an RBI double in the at-bat. Runion singled to plate Mayo in the top of the ninth inning to make the final tally, 8-2 in favor of the visitors.
MHC improved to 1-7 on the season while the Tornados fell to 4-3 on the year. The Lions will host Newberry College in a three-game SAC series this weekend. The teams will play a single game on Friday at 2 p.m. and then meet for a double-header at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
