Riner Places First in Shot-Put

LYNCHBURG, VA,-- Mars Hill's Travis Riner placed first in the Shot Put at the 2013 Sprints, Jumps and Throws Challenge, held Wednesday evening at Lynchburg College.

Riner's winning throw was 49'-11.25". That throw was nearly a foot and half better than the second-place finisher and led a field of 14 competitors. The event featured competitors from Lynchburg, Bridgewater (Va.) and Eastern Mennonite, as well as unaffiliated competitors.

A junior, Riner has been a consistent performer for the Lions over the past two seasons in throwing events. Riner consistently averaged around a 47 foot throw in the Shot Put last season.

Riner and the Lions will travel to Columbia, S.C. this Friday, Feb. 15 for the USC Gamecock Invitational.
