School Records Fall at Virginia Tech QualifierMarch 2, 2013
BLACKSBURG, VA.— The Mars Hill women’s track and field team set two new school-records at the Virginia Tech Final Qualifier, held Saturday at Rector Fieldhouse.
Alexis Montgomery set a new school-record in 400 Meter Dash, while Savannah Hulbert set a new school-record in 800 Meter Run. Over 400 entrants representing 50 schools participated in the event, including student-athletes from all NCAA Divisions.
Montgomery’s time of 57.82 bested the old Lions indoor record by four seconds. That time was good enough for 10th overall and placed Montgomery ahead of Division I runners from Duke, Campbell and Virginia Tech.
Hulbert finished seventh overall in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:24.69, which beat the old school-record by over one second. Jessica Viscusi finished just behind with an eight-place finish.
Faith Trammell placed the highest among Lion runners in the event with a second-place finish in the 5000 Meter Run. Trammell’s time was 19:00.26.
Mars Hill will compete in the Coastal Carolina Shamrock Invitational, which begins Mar. 14 in Conway, S.C.
