Volleyball loses to Catawba in four sets

MARS HILL, N.C. - After dropping the second set, the Catawba volleyball team rallied to win the final two games of the match against Mars Hill and exited Stanford Arena with a victory. The Catawba Indians (15-6, 9-4) defeated the Lions (11-8, 6-7) by scores of 25-20, 20-25, 25-22 and 25-17.

Catawba's Shay Meeks (21 kills, 14 digs), Kaitlyn Whitmer (18 kills, 15 digs), and Jordan Raye (51 assists, 20 digs) all posted double-doubles. Jenny Young netted a match-high 31 digs.

Evie Tafunai (14 kills, 10 digs) and Marissa Wixson (16 kills, 21 digs) each recorded double-doubles to lead Mars Hill. Chelsea Larsen followed up with 10 kills. Maggie Murphy came up with a team-high 26 digs and two service aces. Hannah Wilson and Becca Smith dished out 23 and 21 assists, respectively. Wilson also had seven digs, while Smith totaled six.

Mars Hill hosts 15th-ranked Wingate on Saturday. Match time is set for 5 p.m.
