Lions Down Mt. Olive in Three Sets

FLORENCE, S.C.-- The Mars Hill women's volleyball team swept Mt. Olive in three sets in early Saturday morning action at the Francis Marion Tournament, held at the Smith University Center.

Mars Hill earned 25-21. 25-17 and 25-18 victories. The Lions were paced offensively by Marissa Wixson with 17 kills on a .275 hitting percentage. Toni Cole filled the stat sheet with a solid all-around match, totaling six kills, four aces, a dig, and three blocks (one solo). With the victory, Mars Hill improved to 2-1 on the season. Mount Olive fell to 1-2 on the season.

Maggie Murphy added nine digs for the Lions, who held Mount Olive to a .183 hitting percentage. Mars Hill converted on .266 of their attacks.

Mars Hill notched 12 aces in the match, paced by Cole and Hillary Gambrell with four-apiece. Gambrell had five kills and added a pair of digs.

Mount Olive was paced by Dezirae Mackey with eight kills. Nicole Sparks had 14 digs for the Trojans.

Tournament play concludes this evening when the Lions take on host Francis Marion at 5 p.m. in the Smith University Center.
