Lions Earn a Pair of 3-1 Victories

CHARLESTON, W. Va.-- The Mars Hill volleyball team earned 3-1 victories over Chowan and Charleston (WV) at the UC Invitational Saturday afternoon.

Mars Hill went 3-1 at the tournament. MHC dropped the first set against Charleston 19-25 before rallying to take the final three sets 25-22, 25-22, 25-23. Mars Hill also dropped the first set to Chowan, 20-25, before taking the last three 25-17, 25-20, 25-21. The Lions improved to 6-3 overall on the season with the pair of victories.

Marissa Wixson notched a double-double against Charleston with 13 kills and a team 18 digs. Toni Cole paced the Lions offensively with 14 kills and added nine digs and a pair of blocks. Regan Macomson notched 11 kills and was in on six blocks (one solo).

Hillary Gambrell added nine kills for the Lions. Maggie Murphy led Mars Hill with 24 digs. Becca Smith and Hannah Wilson spread the ball around for the Lion attack, finishing with 24 and 18 assists respectively.

Murphy also paced the Lions with 32 digs in the victory over Chowan. Wixson paced MHC with 13 kills in the match, while Macomson added 11.

Mars Hill will travel to national powerhouse and SAC-foe Wingate on Sept. 14 for a 7 p.m. match.
