Lions Defeat Tornados in Four Sets

MARS HILL, N.C.-- The Mars Hill volleyball team split the first two sets with conference-rival Brevard before rallying to take the last two sets to earn the victory over the Tornados at Boshamer Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

The Lions defeated Brevard 25-23, 24-26, 25-14, 25-23. Marissa Wixson led Mars Hill with 15 kills and added 23 digs for a double-double. Becca Smith added her first double-double of the season with 27 assists and 12 digs. Brevard was paced by Fatima Gharachorloo with 13 kills and 24 digs. Mars Hill improved to 10-7 overall, 4-4 in SAC matches. Brevard is now 7-8 overall, 1-7 in conference matches.  

Maggie Murphy led the Lions with a match-high 27 digs. Christen Nicholson added 13 digs for Mars Hill. In addition to Gharachorloo's 24 digs, three other Tornados reached double-figures- Sydney Yeomans (26), Kayla Hanus (18), and Kortney Connor (13). The Tornados had 91 digs to the Lions 86.

Regan Macomson and Toni Cole added eight kills apiece for MHC. Kayleigh Sutherland filled the stat sheet with six kills, eight assists, three digs and three block assists.

Mars Hill will host South Atlantic Conference foe Tusculum this Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 7:00 p.m. in Stanford Arena.
