Lions Seeking 100th All-Time Win

MARS HILL, N.C.—The Mars Hill men’s lacrosse team will be seeking the program’s 100th all-time win when they face Rollins this Sunday at Ardrey Kell High School in Charlotte.

Faceoff between the Lions and Tars neutral-site matchup is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Mars Hill enters the game 10-3 overall and is coming off a 15-14 victory over Saint Leo. Rollins enters with a 3-12 record. Mars Hill has won all five all-time meetings, which came when both teams were members of the Deep South Conference. A win Sunday would tie the school-record of 11 wins in a season.

A win Sunday would also make this year’s graduating seniors the winningest senior-class in Mars Hill history. The 2013 senior class has won 42 games over the past four seasons, while losing just 14 to compile a .750 winning percentage.

The 2013 senior class consists of Ryan Herrmann, Dan Applebaum, Jesse Mimken, Zach Tomkinson, Kile Garrett, Donte Bradshaw, Jamie Raezer and Jeffrey March. The group has led Mars Hill to as high as a #7 ranking in the nation and has had a hand in three wins over top-10 opponents.

Herrmann leads the nation in ground balls per game, averaging an even eight per contest. Herrmann enters Sunday’s contest needing 10 ground balls to become the school’s all-time leader. The senior also leads the Lions defensively with 25 caused turnovers and owns a .663 faceoff-win percentage.

The Lions are led offensively by Jimmy McBride’s 47 points. He leads MHC with 31 goals and has added 16 assists. Garrett has added 25 goals this season, while Tomkinson has notched 20.

Patrick McMahon has anchored Mars Hill’s goaltending efforts. McMahon has started all 13 games, and has a .554 save percentage while making 148 saves.

Riley Robinson leads Rollins with 24 goals and 12 assists. Alex Petsos has a .580 faceoff-win percentage and has notched a team-best 79 ground balls.

Sunday’s neutral-site contest is being held at Ardrey Kell High School, which is located at 10220 Ardrey Kell Road in Charlotte.
